friday cube life

the day starts with bubbling energy, the weekend is just about here!…reminder clouds blow in and work descends on the office…slowly blanketing silence settles as workers scatter to their various workstations, nestling each employee in their cube…the morning closes soon enough, plans for lunch excite…few dare remain under flourescent lights on FRIDAY…the return to cubes is oft a bit later on this day…work yet remains…silence drones all afternoon, nary a word spoken, only the occasional copy machine grumble…is anyone actually here??…with ~30 minutes left in the day, workers begin to emerge…a faint chatter is heard, growing…joking and chatting burst forth…the day is OVER!!…WOOOHOOO, THE WEEKEND IS HERE

I had a rather chatty fella call me today at work. He called to give me some information so I could set up an account for him for one of our web tools. Anyway, he is in chicago and knows the company is in texas, so he brought up the weather. A good topic for today since it was sunny and in the mid 70’s!! As we were talking, he asked where I was from, noting that I could not be from texas due to the lack of southern drawl. He took a stab at locating my home state…that in itself tells you how wrong he was…can you guess his choice (hint: read the post title)? Yup…he thought I was a yank! Okay, I don’t really take exception to the choice, but had to keep from laughing. I hope he just hasn’t spoken with anyone from new york recently…I’m pretty sure they might take exception to someone thinking that I speak like them

IT goes visual!

The irony is too much for me…

Today and tomorrow at work, we are having our desktop computers replaced. Acknowledging that all things computer related have glitches in them, half the department trades out their computers this afternoon and the other half tomorrow. Now, this does create some complication because we have to somehow inform who is today and who is tomorrow. And here steps in our IT group. As a quick reminder/education, information technology “deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and securely retrieve information.” So, this high-tech, innovative, information-processing and disseminating technology group developed and implemented a sure-fire way to mark the necessary replacement computers today: 1 pink balloon, 1 small balloon pump, 1 tape dispenser.

Problem solved!

So, I have successfully not posted in days…I think this happens when I am not on the computer every day. Plus, we have done lots of driving around, visiting with family, etc etc. These are my execuses.

Profound thought: the absence of stress makes life soooooo much easier! Okay, I know everyone already knew this.

Gotta give props to Casting Crowns for their new CD, The Altar and the Door. I got it for Christmas. They write good songs…songs of struggle, songs of truth…good stuff!

Well, work beckons. Being in a financial dept.  this is year-end close…otherwise known as: insane, crazy, maniacal. Or how about an oldie, ape.
