Okay, so we took this video about 3 weeks ago and I am just now posting it! Sorry it is a bit long. You can skip to about 45 seconds to get the roll over. Course, by now it seems that he hardly has to try to roll over…and Mere has seen him (only once) roll from his tummy to his back. Enjoy!
My argument for the existence of God: Luke is alive and healthy…and so are mama and papa (well, I’m at least alive)!
This past week Luke made it through his first quarter of a year…we documented with plenty more pics, but I just haven’t gotten them online. So, here are a couple for you!
Luke 3 months
To celebrate this milestone, we thought Luke might enjoy some rice cereal…or maybe we might enjoy smearing it all over his face
Rice Cereal Smear
He also got a new onesie from Aunt Jenn (thanks Aunt Jenn!!) that is now very fitting. In the midst of excitement of adding something new to his diet, mama and papa forgot what this meant for the poopy’s…gone are the days of odourless diapers…they are already but a faint memory…
Lil
And no update is complete without a bit of mommy love! We enjoyed a walk in the park Sunday afternoon. We had hoped for a picnic, but it was a bit too hot to be there that long.
Mommy & Luke
P.S. Perhaps soon Luke’s latest acrobatic routine will leak out. Till then, here is a still of his karate high kick…
As all new parents (and “experienced” parents) say, the time flies too quickly. Yesterday marked 1 week from Luke’s birth…and it has gone by too fast! So, I thought I would take this opportunity to share a couple of milestones.
1) within 24 hours of being born, Luke had 4 dirty diapers and 6 wet diapers…where did he get all the “stuff”?!? The parents now know first hand what meconium is and shall never forget it
2) Day 5 – after 3 days with no dirty diaper (only wet diapers), the parents began to wonder if something needs to be done. He’s eating good, so where is all the stuff going? And then it happened…as loud as any adult, the toot heard round the house! The plug was uncorked! And there it was, all that he had stored up those past 3 days! Who was holding the lil bugger…yup, me!
3) Day 6 – the navel stump is already shed. This is great news to the parents as we have already drawn blood from our son. Somehow the stump was caught on his clothes (on day 4 or 5) and blood started welling up out of it. It is amazing what you forget to do…cut or something with blood, put pressure on it. So, first “emergency” call to the pediatrician’s office (I’m sure there will be plenty more) where the nurse reminds us to put pressure on it to try and stop the bleeding…worked like a charm!
4) Day 7 – first dirty diaper explosion that oozes up Luke’s back…this one happened in Grammy’s arms
I think I might do some posts called “What Not To Do To A Baby”
Entry #1 – Never disturb a sleeping baby. They may react in defense with a loud toot to scare the disturber away. “All I did was touch his blanket…” Of course, at this stage I don’t think there will just be air toots any more…I think they now come fully loaded.
I figure this is the type of post most of the readers want to see anyway, so I’ll save other thoughts for later. I’m still hoping to have a Friday the 13th baby, but Mere is not really in favor of the idea. Course, at this point she is willing to go with just about ANYTHING!! It is hot, there is nothing comfortable in life at the moment…no food, no situation, no position…NOTHING. She is being a great trooper enduring the pain and all!
So yep, no baby yet. Doc says any day…that was a week ago. We had an unscheduled visit with a different doc yesterday (ours was at a different office) because there was some concern about amount of fluid in the womb. The plus side of the visit was that they did a sonogram for the check, so we got to see lil’ Luke (the last time was at week 20). The nurse showed that there is definitely no “ifs” on his boyhood. She also oh-so-gently let us know some other news: “Well, you won’t be needing any newborn outfits.” His weight is estimated at 9lbs already!! We might be competing to have the michelin baby In the sonogram we could see his chubby cheeks and he was puckering his lips. He is gonna be a chunk…but he’ll be OUR chunk
We just got back from the first of our weekly checkups with the doc. This is the first “poking and prodding” for those who know the process. Annnddd….whoa! Mere is already almost 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced! Course the doc cautioned us that many people stay like this for the remainder of their term…but then he casually threw out the “I wouldn’t be surprised if you do not make it to your due date” comment. In our minds, this is part of the process of making everything a little bit more real, especiallly the part that even though we have a little over 3 weeks left, we really have NO IDEA when lil’ Luke might decide to make is grande entrance
We also visited a principal…uh, I mean pediatrician this week. Her office is only about 5 minutes from our house and she is connected with Baylor hospital, so we were hopeful for a good experience. It wasn’t a horrible experience, but let’s just leave it that her glance was enough to make us sit up straight and keep our mouths shut!
So, Luke is growing!! The pic on the left is at 18 weeks and the one on the right is at 34 weeks…just a little change:) Today we are at week 36, so only 4 more to go! Woooohooooo! We start weekly checkups this Friday. Our bag is packed, car seat set out, and we’ve mapped the route (more or less, anyway).
In other baby news, we congratulate Paul and Sarah Maney in the birth of their first child, Jonas!! Check out their blog and pics at Everything Maney.
We had our last 4 week checkup on Tuesday and now move to checkups every 2 weeks. On Tuesday Mere survived her glucose test…it was quite entertaining watching her take the first sip of the stuff to prep herself…anyway, the test came back negative for diabetes and anemia. Weight gain and health were all great and her belly growth is slightly above average.
Now, for the best news of all, I f i n a l l y felt him move for the first time!!!! Nothing big, probably not even a kick, just movement
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
– Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet)
I guess you could say that my sentiments echo Shakespeare’s words, especially towards family names. I am not against family names by any means…they often represent a rich heritage and/or tradition, but I have never been particularly inclined to follow this tradition…nor not follow it, I guess…when I have children. This becomes quite a significant issue when you do have a child and go through the process of choosing a name. See, for me, it is not the name that makes a person…it is the person that makes the name (if that makes sense.) Yet naming your child is an important task and I have a loving wife who has honored me greatly! Thus my ramblings are all to say that we have chosen a name for our son:
LUKE ANDREW SEABOURN
So there you have it (my middle name is Luke, in case you did not know)! In additional baby news, all is going well in growth and development. We had a checkup on Friday and weight, measurements, and heartbeat are all good. Meredith has departed from the land of morning sickness and is back to enjoying food only 1 time around. I find that if I take a hungry, pregnant woman to the grocery store, we come home with all sorts of goodies and treats It’s a good thing that the father doesn’t have to participate in regular weigh-ins!
