bye bye greek…bye bye hebrew

April 28, 2009

and so it is, with utmost joy and celebration (and a bit-o-tiredness) that I turn in my last hebrew exegetical paper. this marks the end of my official foray into the languages, though I feel I was the one plundered and taken prisoner.

I offer tribute with this hebrew proverb:

An advantage of poverty: your relatives gain nothing by your death.

rights defended

April 24, 2009

Dear Sir,

Thank you for the introduction to your car…but really, I don’t want to see it that close. Yes, my car does like its personal bubble space. What a coincidence when we ended up at the same store and you explained to me your rights…

…I was in your way because you were gonna get in that lane. Right! Excuse me.  I guess everyone else understands this…forgive my ignorance. What remarkable reasoning to tell me why it was okay to run me out of the lane. I guess it doesn’t really matter what I am doing, or really what you are doing. It matters only what you want to do and I should just know to adjust to that.

…no one can tell you what to do because clearly you are a grown man. Again, sorry. I forgot that you have the right to do whatever you want because you are physically all grown up. So what happened with your mind? How come it isn’t all grown up too. Your actions portray a different age and I must have gotten the two mixed up.

…what colorful language you use! I wonder, is it possible to use those same words too much? Do you ever want some variety? Hmmmm…I guess I’m still just a kid and don’t get it, Mr. Grown-Up Man.

Don’t worry, I’m not all up in your space. I just thought that since you got up in mine, you were lonely or something.

10 months

April 18, 2009

The days are flying by, and so is Luke! He has become quite the speedster crawler, often chasing us as we move about the house, and sometimes we chase after him.

the journey of ministry

April 10, 2009

These words, though not new, struck me deeper than usual the other day. Perhaps it is because this is a struggle I fight, coupled with pondering the actions/events of Christ in His final days as the cross loomed ever nearer…

weekend affairs

April 6, 2009

…mere’s mom and step-dad came through town, taking mere and luke to a wedding on saturday. overnight, their car was broken into and a few items stolen: GPS system and cell phones…and car jack. yeah, why steal a car jack?  this is the standard-issue car jack that they had to open a panel in the back to remove…didn’t know there was a black market for factory car jacks

…i had my final exam for my saturday class. it’s never encouraging when the prof opens the class with, “well yes, you guys are all just concerned with the exam we are taking at the end of the day…yes, well…it isa difficult one…hmmm…well enough of that, you will have time to see for yourself.” uh, thanks? it was just as difficult as the prof built it up to be…but this is, after all, grad school. the test centered around synthesizing what we had discussed and responding in essay form to case study type situations…the challenge being the length of the exam in the short time allotted.

…luke pulled to a stand on his own!! and mama and papa missed it!! he was on his knees looking out the window as I fed mallory. in the time i turned around and entered the house through the door that is 1 foot away, he stood up. at first i thought nothing of it because we often stand him up at the window and let him hang out there for a bit…but then i realized that i was outside and mere was on the couch on the other side of the room! here are some pics of the after-celebration:

does not compute…

April 3, 2009

37 hours to know the ins-’n-outs of world religions…unfortunately the world religions have avoided the ins and found only the outs of my brain

God is not just saving individuals and preparing them for heaven; rather, he is creating a people among whom he can live and who in their life together will reproduce God’s life and character. (emphasis added)
