60 year example

November 25, 2008

There are things we do in life, when at the very moment of action, we know that it is an example to family, friends, and others. Then there are things we do that are not really examples until they are clumped together with other things…and other things…and other things…until there is this whole mess of things bound by some abstract interrelated network. Today is a day in history marking whatever-it-is-that-I-just-said…an example composed of many, many days for my family. Today is the day, 60 years removed, when my grandparents, Kermet & Novlee, committed to loving and caring for each other. Today they celebrate 60 years of faithful marriage…I really cannot express what this unspoken act communicates to me, a young man, barely on the marriage road. But in my heart, as I consider this milestone for them, a loudspeaker is sounding. I think anyone who is married would be quick to say that 60 years is definitely not easy. Sometimes one single day is not easy (I mean…I’ve heard such…)!

COMMITMENT  –  LOVE  –  PATIENCE  –  CARING  –  WORK

Congratulations Grandpa & Gran!! This example speaks loudly to your grandson! May our Father bless you with more years of enriching and joyful marriage!

I’m still a Texas Tech alumn and a fan!

Just felt I needed to lead with that assertion. Oh what a terrible game we had tonight…sheesh, not much went right for us, and OU definitely gave us a pummeling! So, I recognize that I have some bruised emotions and distressed at the outcome, but I don’t think I am out of line with this statement: Kirk Herbstreet and Brent Musberger are CLASSLESS BUFFOONS!!!!! I was dumbfounded and in complete shock when sports commentators on national television laughed at the situation in the game…laughed that OU was pummeling Tech…laughed at the game Tech was having…laughed…did anyone else see it??

I quickly became irate! I formed plans to write a letter unleashing my thoughts on the eyes of some poor soul who had nothing to do with the 2 commentator’s behaviour. Then I remembered that I am no one to them and they don’t care and probably would never even know such a letter was written…and, well, there are far more important things in life…so I will just blog about it…:)

The season is not over…hey, we’re still 10-1!!!

Photo Update – Luke

November 19, 2008

I finally got a minute to update Luke’s photos. I’m trying a new way of posting, using Google’s Picasa Web, so let me know if you cannot access them. Click the links below to access each album.

Luke 4 month (updated)

Halloween

Baby Dedication

Luke 5 month

Luke hit the 5 month mark on Sunday. It is so fun to watch him grow and change. He has started recognizing things other than mom and papa’s faces, such as his bottle. I must say that sometimes I might take a few extra seconds getting the bottle to him because he shoots his arms straight out, mouth opens, tounge works in and out, and he says “oooooo…..oooooo…oooooo!” It is fun to see (does this count as fathers exasperating their children??)!

We often find him scooted into the corner of his crib, face planted in the bumper, but when he is awake he hasn’t made any real move to crawling. I guess he can turn himself around, but anytime he works his arms and feet, he arches his back…looks funny cause he is high-centered on his belly.

What a blessing and joy Luke is!!

goals…plans…schedules…strategies…

November 17, 2008

I confess, I am a goal-oriented person. I love to set goals, mainly those that bring about the conclusion of something. And so I did not achieve that which I said I would do (or not do) in my previous post…I THOUGHT about school over the weekend (*gasp*).  I know, they seemed such simple statements to carry out, but I failed. I failed because, given a few moments to catch my breath and think about things more distant than the day’s immediate assignments, classes, and studies, I began scheduling out the rest of the semester and setting goals for this week, outlining all that I hope to accomplish. My mind was very busy this weekend :)

I chuckled at these statements concerning goal-oriented-ness:”a system, person, or organization that tends to achieve a goal and demonstrate it in subsequent actions.” I guess I tend to set and achieve goals! I think I do not really understand how a goal achieved is then demonstrated in subsequent actions. I like this one too: “Individuals continuously monitor whether goals have been achieved through a process called self-regulation.” Ahh, good ‘ole self-regulation…have you self-regulated lately?

This is the week during the semester where I feel rejuvenated (only in some partial sense, however) because I see the end drawing near…I see the possibility of achieving goals…now if all these pages to be read, research to be done, and papers to be written would just get out of my way to I can achieve goals and demonstrate this in subsequent actions! C’mon…they’re beginning to stress my self-regulation process!

blogging woes

November 11, 2008

I think I have quite a few good ideas for things to write about on the blog, the problem is either the idea comes at a time when I am not at a computer, or I am at a computer and just don’t have the time to write. So, a few days pass, then a few more, and then I just give up on the idea because it is so far removed. Time is pressed, life is full, choices have to be made. So, let me share a few things with you and eventually I may get a roundtuit (if you have a spare one, toss it my way), but prolly not. Eh, what’s to be done.

Here are a couple of pics from our church’s harvest festival…documenting Luke’s VERY FIRST slide/bounce house slide!!!

weeeeee! down we go

weeeeee! down we go

It did take some persuasion on momma, but Luke’s cute face works wonders!

IT goes visual!

November 10, 2008

The irony is too much for me…

Today and tomorrow at work, we are having our desktop computers replaced. Acknowledging that all things computer related have glitches in them, half the department trades out their computers this afternoon and the other half tomorrow. Now, this does create some complication because we have to somehow inform who is today and who is tomorrow. And here steps in our IT group. As a quick reminder/education, information technology deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and securely retrieve information.” So, this high-tech, innovative, information-processing and disseminating technology group developed and implemented a sure-fire way to mark the necessary replacement computers today: 1 pink balloon, 1 small balloon pump, 1 tape dispenser.

Problem solved!

Thought Collage

November 3, 2008

One windy eve on the plains of west Texas, a raucous clamor arose…pandemonium ensued…wha…? The formidable stout tower that is University of Texas crumbled…mortar and stone came crashing down. As the dust was whirled away on the evening breeze, the Big 12 stepchild emerged, VICTORIOUS!! Sports writers, commentators, media…perhaps a little respect now? I’m still waiting for how you will twist the events, trying to find some way that UT lost the game, denying any possibility that Tech WON the game! Sure, we have a stepchild complex, cause no one ever gives us any credit! No, it is always how the other team just didn’t play to their potential…sure they didn’t! Cause we smacked ‘em in the face, pounded them to the ground, and took that pigskin in for 6!!!!

Hah!! Check the BCS standings…

WRECK EM TECH !!!!

There was some ingenious marketing going on by Tech. Less than 24 hours after the game, when school spirit is soaring, here comes the alumni association call asking for financial donations to the school…nice, but the answer is still no :)

We had fun with Luke’s first Halloween, and pictures are soon coming! Our adventures took us to our church’s fall festival, complete with bounce house and candy :) Yesterday he discovered the joy of his thumb…till now it has been a pacifier, unless of course he throws that to the ground, but then it was the whole hand-in-mouth move. Last night I was sitting at the desk, wrangling with parsing Hebrew verbs and analyzing the grammar of Ruth 3, when I heard a gleeful squeal from the living room. I took a peek in, and there was mommy and Luke, watching Winnie the Pooh and his many adventures…Luke absolutely LOVED it! Why am I looking at chicken scratch when in the background I hear him “talking” with Pooh?

I have a mouse problem. It could prolly be in a circus somewhere. Twice I have set out traps and twice all that is found are glistening traps, still waiting to spring into action, but no peanut butter…not even the slightest trace! And, I think the mouse is mocking me by leaving mouse pellets right beside the traps!
